今天為大家介紹的是著名英倫樂隊The Who演唱出的Substitute，歌曲在1966年推出，英版歌曲長達4分鐘，而美版則長達3分鐘。歌曲為The Who第四首單曲，作曲填詞由The Who的結他手及創作人Pete Townshend打理。在當時發行首月，在英美等地音樂榜榜上有名。歌曲後來更被收錄於專輯《Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy》，更獲得各大媒體好評。
Pete Townshend稱歌曲意思一個悲慘愛情故事，原來自己是「備胎／水泡」，對響往浪漫的愛情瞬間幻滅，歌曲中的Substitute me for him「自己是替代品」。還有，Pete稱歌曲是受到當時心情影響，他覺得在粉絲眼中的The Who是The Rolling Stones的替代品。
據稱歌曲是受到1965年由Smokey Robinson and the Miracles組合的The Tracks of My Tears歌曲啟發，Pete Townshend非常著迷於這首歌曲，因而作下作品Substitute向組合The Miracles致敬。另外，歌曲的英美兩版本有很大的差別。美版中，歌曲長度比英版短1分鐘(本文的版本是版本)。而在歌詞方面，因為種族問題及歌詞過於激進問題，由原本英版，”I look all white but my dad was black”改為I try walking forward but my feet walk back。
