今天要介紹的是一首法語歌曲　—　Amsterdam 是鬼才比利時創作歌手Jacques Brel的作品，一首以荷蘭首都阿姆斯特丹為名的法語歌曲。Amsterdam 可喻為一首充滿「力量」的悲情歌曲，旋律簡單，詩意十足，Crescendo音樂漸強手法演出，就好比大家所知的音樂劇孤星淚一樣。

Jacques Brel在短短3分鐘內充滿情感，唱出水手在阿姆斯特丹的一生，特別是關於水手短暫的假期。在旋律方面，歌曲在低音部分以英國民謠歌曲綠袖子為藍本。

除此之外，Jacques Brel在創作這個歌曲是在一個充滿詩意的情景下創作這些首歌曲，在鄰近地中海，欣賞著賞心悅目的地中海，因而創作出這首歌曲。據稱歌曲名稱本來不是阿姆斯特丹，是Jacques Brel的出生國家比利時，其中一個城市—Antwerp，但後來因為Antwerp與節拍不符，所以改作Amsterdam。

另外，有趣之處在於歌曲的唯一版本只有現場版的專輯大碟—Olympia 1964年，並沒有錄製室的版本。儘管如此，亦都沒有阻止到Jacques Brel的受歡迎程度。

雖然不可以說Amsterdam令Jacques Brel聲名大噪，但是鬼才的Jacques Brel，受到不少音樂人的歡迎，所謂「識英雄重英雄」。歌曲Amsterdam有不少翻唱版本，亦有超過八種語言的版本，例如英語版本有較多的翻唱版本，該法語歌曲受到英語地區的音樂人重視。當中最著名的音樂人為David Bowie，在1973年推出在單曲Sorrow的B-Side。除此之外，1968年的音樂劇Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris，這個也不可以錯過！
