今天為大家介紹的歌曲是Eight Miles High，由美國組合The Byrds在1966年推出，歌曲長達3分33秒，屬於Psychedelic rock類型。作曲填詞由The Byrds樂隊成員Gene Clark，Jim McGuinn及David Crosby一同創作。
Eight Miles High在Psychedelic rock及Raga Rock風格發展有很大的影響，有指該歌曲被喻為是第一首最能代表Psychedelic rock風格的歌曲，以及最能代表反文化運動(Counterculture)的歌曲。
歌曲曾經被美國電臺廣播禁播，原因是歌曲中歌詞令人聯想到毒品及濫藥等爭議性話題。有大部份人都認為這首歌曲的誕生是因為服用毒品，但The Byrds聲稱自己乘坐飛機因而作下這首歌曲。主音Gene Clark問結他手Roger McGuinn：距離地面有多高，Roger 答 Gene：6 Miles High，因而成為歌名的靈感，但後來則修改為8 Miles High。
大部份人認為歌曲與毒品有莫大關係，主要是因為樂隊有服用毒品的習慣，從中找創作靈感。另外，敏銳的聽眾都知道樂隊的解釋只是個「煙幕」，樂隊並不希望因歌曲與毒品沾上關係而令到電台禁播，令到收聽渠道逐漸減少。即使樂隊當時堅稱歌曲與毒品沒有任何關係，但也不能逃出美國電台禁播的命運。
基於這個禁播的命運，令到歌曲錯失了當時進入音樂排行榜頭十位的殊榮。話雖如此，8 Miles High在當時已經有相當好的成績，並不是被打入「冷宮」的歌曲。
